This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the First International IFIP Workshop on Autonomic Communication, WAC 2004, held in Berlin, Germany in October 2004. The 18 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited papers and 3 panel summaries were carefully reviewed and selected from 45 submissions.
