前言

  MICHAEL BULLOCK was born in the UK in 1918,came to Canada on a Commonwealth Fellowship in 1968,joined the faculty of the Creative Writing Department at UBC in 1969, and retired as professor emeritus in 1983.He is the author of more than fifty works of poetry and fiction and two plays, as well as some two hundred translations of books and plays from German, Frenc hand Italian. His own work has been translated into manyEuropean and Eastern languages, especially Chinese, as well as Punjabi and Bengali. A selection of his poems inChinese was published in 2000 in the series World Classic sin Poetry of the 20th century. In the same year a Bengali translation of his surreal novella Through the Veil of May a was published in the series Contemporary World Classics in Indian Languages. His Selected Works 1936-1996, edited by Peter Loef fler and Jack Stewart, appeared in 1998.This was followed by Sonnet in Black and Other Poems (1998) , Erupting in Flowers (1999) , Nocturnes: poems of night (2000) , and Wings of the Black Swan: poems of oven loss (2001) .  His work is the subject of a 340-page critical study by Jack Stewart: The Incandescent Word: the Poetic Visi on of Michael Bullock (1990)  In April 2008 Michael Bul lockcelebrated his ninetieth birthday which was marked, am on go ther things, by the publication of his book Seasons:poems of the turning year. This was followed later by hislatest collection of poems The Enchanted Garden. In 2007 his poem "Butterfly" was displayed on the Shanghai- Metro alongside poems of William Wordsworth and William Blake to represent British poetry.

内容概要

  For the development of a discipline, its future can be correctly prospected only if its present is appropriately assessed, and its present can be appropriately assessed only if its past is reasonably respected. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to research the disciplinary progress.
