英语演讲是提高英语说写能力的重要途径。特别是在中学英语教学中，英语演讲比赛成为老师和学生都喜闻乐见的教学形式。它突破了口语教学的单纯语言训练的模式，实现语言操练与思想表达的结合；它摆脱了一般英语教学中技能训练的单一性，实现说、读、写、视、听的一体化；它消除了传统课堂“填鸭式”的教学弊端，变英语课堂为学生综合素质培养的场所，培养学生英语口语技能和实际应用能力。
