　　《电力英语》自德国引进，由国内教师改编，是一本供电力工程行业的英语学习者使用的英语教材，适用于高职高专院校的教学或企业内部培训，旨在帮助使用者锻炼并掌握在英语语境下熟练运用专业知识的能力。　　《电力英语》适用于具有高中以上英语水平的学习者。在此基础上，在每个单元的Extra Material中还附有难度较高的学习材料，以供学有余力的使用者进一步提高自身的英语水平。此教材要求使用者具备约650个基本词汇。　　《电力英语》共有12个单元，每个单元都含有一个独立的故事情节。在使用本教材时，教师可以只挑选其中的几个单元，但在教学时间能够得到保证的情况下，我们建议按照教材顺序进行教学，以便保证专业英语学习的连续性。　本教材通过选取学习者在日常工作中可能碰到的情境，使他们掌握最实用的英语。无论是与顾客及合作伙伴的沟通、技术性文件的处理、电子邮件的写作，还是关于建筑部件、测量或发动机等问题的探讨，《电力英语》都提供了相应的语言知识。所有单元都由几个小的学习步骤组成，以利于学习者清晰地把握文章脉络，系统掌握所学知识。　　《电力英语》为生动的、贴合实际的教学提供了可能性。本书的文字材料来源于现实的工作生活，很多取材于真实的场景。通过这些材料，使用者可以学习到重要的、贴近工作实际的专业词汇和表达方式。本教材还通过角色扮演和对话练习，使学习者提高自己的英语口语水平。对于重要的语法规则，特别是基本的句型结构，在每个单元逐条进行讲解并提供练习。　　每个单元的Learning都介绍一些重要的学习技巧，旨在使学习者能更准确地理解、掌握并使用新学的词汇和知识。Culture则指出需要特别注意的跨文化差异或相关的文化背景.　　书后的Word List包括全书各处出现的生词。学习者在书中任何地方碰到的生词几乎都能在书后的Word List中检索到。为了使用方便，我们特意提供了两种检索方式：Unit Word List按照单词、短语在书中出现的先后顺序排列，通过该词表，你可以看到每一页、每一项内容中所有的生词。A-Z Word List按照字母顺序排列，对所有单词、短语出现的页码都进行了标注，通过该词表，你可以找到每个生词的上下文。　　本教材的改编由赵春芳担任主编，参加改编的还有石学亮、李赞红。

　　Electric motorsThe basic scientific principles behind the electric motor are that like poles repel and unlike poles attract, and that electric current flowing through a conductor produces a magnetic feld that has both a north and a south pole. An electric motor is essentially a rotating electromagnet. As the electromagnet rotates, electriial energy is transformed into mechanica！ energy, which can then perform work. There are many different designs for electric motors, but these are the three basic types:　　1 DC motor　　In a DC motor, the electromagnet （the armature）, rotates within a permanent magneticfield created by two opposing magnets （the exciter field）. The interaction of the northand south pole of the armature and the north and south poles of the exciter fieldproduces a torque, which rotates the armature. A device called a split ring commutatorreverses the magnetic poles of the armature as it rotates. Carbon brushes brush againsteach half of the split, ring commutator and conduct the electrical energy to the armature.The reversal of the armature poles as they interact with the poles of the exciter fieldalternately pushes and pulls the armature around.　　2 AC motor　　A typical AC motor consists of an outside stationary stator having coils supplied with ACcurrent to produce a rotating magnetic fie|d, and an inside rotor attached to the output shaft.The rotor and shaft are given a torque by the rotating field. In an induction AC motor the rotor rotates more slowly than the magnetic field producec by the electrical supply. Often the rotor is made upof two rings, one at either end,connected by solid bars. Washing machines, dishwashers, etc. use induction motors. In a synchronous AC motor the rotor rotates at the same speed as the rotating magneticfield. This type of motor can also be used as an alternator. Very large synchronous motors are used in the French high-speed train, the TGV.　　3 Universal motor　　Universal motors may use AC or DC supply current. Unlike DC motors, universal motors have to use an electromagnet to create the stator field, because the field has to reverse it polarity every half cycle of the AC current.The advantage of the universal motor is that it has the useful characteristics ofa DC motor, e.g. high starting torque, high speed and very compact design, but can be used with an AC power supply. This makes them useful for appliances such as blenders, vacuum cleaners.
