本书是依据教育部优秀教材、高等教育出版社出版的《实用英语综合教程（共四册）》（第三版）编写的，编委由北京各高校教师组成，他们不仅具有扎实的专业知识，而且具备丰富的教学经验，深知大家在英语学习中的难点、疑点，因此，该书目的明确，针对性强。
蒋隆国,清华大学外语系知名教授，先后就读于长沙明德中学和广州中山大学，后入北京外国语大学英语系就读研究生，师从著名英语专家许国璋先生，攻读实践英语专业，是著名的英语专家、教育家、翻译家和考试辅导专家。曾任北京辅仁外国语大学副校长，在外语界和学生中享有盛誉。
蒋隆国教授长期从事英语语言、文学、翻译和测试学研究，有“诗歌翻译家”的美称，先后发表论文、著作和译作（英译唐诗、宋词以及郭沫若、闻一多、艾青、臧克家、田间等近、现代著名诗人的诗作）等一百余篇／部／首，其论文、著作和译作已被国家图书馆和超星数字图书馆收藏。
蒋隆国教授从90年代开始，积极参与大学英语四、六级考试、考研和托福辅导班的教学工作。教学效果显著，曾获得清华大学优秀教学成果二等奖，并因其命题切中率高。对考试大纲把握准确.深受广大考生欢迎。为此，北京晚报和北京电视台《北京人》节目对其人及其教学经验作过专题报道。
