Selected Readings in English Literature is to serye as a .textbookfor Readings in English Literature, a companion-course to History of English Literature, for third-and fourth-year students majoring in English in Chinese colleges and universities.The selected readings included herein are all taken from original writings in English literature through the centuries, with the exception of excerpts from Beowulf and Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales forwhich modern English translations are given in the place of the o-riginal works in Old English and Middle English. As a rule, shorttexts chosen are given in their entirety, while longer works are re-presented by excerpts. In accordance with the wishes of a numberof teachers who will be using this book, we have included more se-lections here than are necessary for normal classroom use so thatteachers may feel free to make their own choice.

考研不错的文学选读书
对于英语专业的学生来说,这本输有助于我们扩展文学知识
书挺好的 就是发货有点慢
我们考研用的指定教材,其实我都三套英美文学类的书的,但是学校指定的就是这一套,也没有办法。具体内容我还没有看,只是粗略的翻了翻,感觉还好,正版,印刷还行。
当当上好多本英文经典作品选读之类的书里,虽然收藏了好几本,只买了这本.好处是,确实是经典作品,而不只是近代当代演讲词之类的所谓"经典" , 同时选取的人物确实都是代表性的,比如spenser这样的诗人在当代虽不如莎士比亚著名,而他的十四行诗却是盖过莎翁的,理应入选。涵盖面广,远古近古作品都收入,比例均匀(考虑到这只是第一册,而且对我这样非英语系出身的人来说,很均匀了) . 第三,让人却确实是感受到古典英文之美.
坏处是,这书初版是81年,似乎还有一点点时代气息。如托马斯莫尔《乌托邦》一篇,一方面让人惊异于英国圈地运动时社会状况之恶劣与当今中国被房地产商把持的现状有惊人之雷同;却同时也让人觉得特意选这一部分文字,似乎有一点时代遗迹。
此外,同时选了鲁滨逊历险记与迦里弗游记,在我看来有点重复,虽然是两个完全不同的故事。
大外指定教材,不错
现在的教材来来回回就那些名篇。需要创新。这本教材还是可以的。
