第一次看到《室内设计一百年（1900-200年）》一书是在一个很偶然的机会，在美国室内设计杂志的同行介绍他们的成就的时候。作者史坦利·亚伯克隆比（Stanley Abercrombie）先生是美国室内设计杂志的资深编辑，对世界室内设计行业的发展有很深刻的认识和理解。把国际最新的设计资讯和行业信息引进来是我们的责任。因此，当我看过这本书的时候，第一反应是要把它翻译过来，使更多的中国设计师看到它。我们很难想象室内设计行业可以追溯到1900年，因为国内通常认为室内设计行业是从“二战“后开始兴起的。作为资料性和史实性兼备的设计工具书，本书可以确立它在室内设计行业的不可替代的位置。阅读本书给我们带来诸多感慨，我希望我的同行们可以带着下面两个观点去读，去理解，去品味。科学与艺术的观点。人类对科学和艺术的不懈追求，在室内设计行业得到了淋漓尽致的发挥。对室内设计而言，科学体现在技术和材料的进步上，也体现在建筑学的发展上。而艺术体现在多种风格流派的兼容之中，比如现代主义的影响。我们的室内设计在科学和艺术的交融中摇摆，时而追求科学的理性，时而追求艺术的感性。历史和发展的观点。20世纪给我们生活带来的变化是巨大的，这100年的人们需要接受的新事物似乎超过了人类历史上的任何一个100年。
