In 1901 the citizens of Colorado Springs in the USA decided to collorA everydaythings and put them in a steel box. On the box it was written "To be opened afterimid-night， December 31st， AD 2000"， and it was stored in the Colorado College Library. One hundred years later， on the very day， 300 lbeople gathered to Watch the opening ofthe box. Among them， many were the grandchildren of those who had placed things insidethe box. When the box was opened after midnight， everything inside was ingood condition . There were newspapers， photos， diaries， name cards， family trees， books anddozens of letters， including one written by Theodore Roosevelt， who became the Presidentof the USA later that year. Many of the letters were addressed to their grandchildren. They talked about the hopesthat people of 1901 had for the people of the next century. At that time， there were only afew thousand people living in Colorado Springs. Now nearly half a million people livethere. Colorado College Library has scanned all the things and put them on a website.Cecil Muller， whose grandfather had placed a lot of postcards in the box， said that the boxwould be a great gift to him. It could help him learn a lot about history. In April 2001， people filled the box with things from modern Colorado Springs andstored it for another hundred years. They called it ，Time Capsule".
