陈明星系中共党员，黄冈中学教务处主任、校教学委员会副主任委员，黄冈市外语学会副会长，中国教育学会外语教学专业委员会会员，湖北省第六批特级教师。
2003年元月，全国教育科学“十五”规划课题“中小学英语课堂教学模式优化研究与实验”的子课题由中央教育科学研究所批准，陈明星系湖北省首位承担该课题的实验教师。
陈明星热爱教育事业，在30余年的英语教学实践中，大胆地进行英语教学改革实验，自1984年以来，他先后在“高中英语课文阅读教学法”、“高中英语课文整体教学法”和“五读教学法”，以及“英语写作能力的培养”等方面进行了20余年的探讨与实践，有效地提高了课堂教学质量和学生听说读写能力。他先后多次在国内中学外语刊物上发表论文。他应邀编写的20多种教辅图书在全国反映良好，深受广大中学生及教育工作者的好评。
