《英语叙事语篇中第三人称前指的阐释》使用“功能—语用”理论对英语语料进行了分析，证明了“功能—语用”理论中的“前指理解原则”加上“语义一致原则”和“语用一致原则”，不仅能解释汉语语篇中的前指现象，也同样能够解释英语语篇中的前指现象。
