如果把英语比作一座建筑，那么语法就是它的框架，词汇则是砖瓦和基石。英语学习者词汇量的多寡，直接影响学习者的听、说、读、写、译等方面的能力。在英语教与学的过程中，提到词汇的学习时，师生们更多地重视考前“突破”，尤其是中考、高考前常采用集中背诵的形式，这极大地增加了考生的负担，也不符合语言学习的规律，另外，词汇的学习仅凭记忆不能达到灵活运用的要求，而且在考试后集中背诵的词汇通常会“清零”，因为词汇记忆是遵循“用进废退”的原则。
