社会生活的信息化和经济的全球化，使英语的重要性日益突出。英语作为重要的信息载体，已成为使用最广泛的语言之一。掌握英语并能灵活运用是许多人都想做到的事。在英语学习的开始阶段，听说是重要的，而在有了一定的听说基础之后，阅读的重要性就显现出来了。 首先，英语阅读能扩大学生视野，让学生学到许多课堂上学不到的知识；英语阅读能增加学生对不同国家的人文习俗、历史地理的了解；英语阅读能陶冶学生情操，使他们在欣赏原汁原味英语的同时，丰富自己的情感和精神世界。其次，英语阅读是提高英语水平的主要手段之一。在阅读过程中，通过浏览、诵读上下文的语境，能加深对整个语篇的理解，加深对语言结构、词汇用法及习惯用语的理解，增强语感。通过语言的大量输入和不断重现，能有效地帮助学生“习得”语言，扩大词汇量，逐步提高语言水平。 为此，我们根据新课程标准中对英语阅读的要求，精心编写了一套同步英语课外读物——新英语阅读突破，从小学六年级到高中三年级每学期1册，共14册。每一分册都选编了大量英语阅读材料，分成生活感悟、科技纵横、时事新闻、历史地理、政治经济、文化教育、广告博览等7章，力求做到语言材料富有时代感，题材和文体多样化，以接近当今中学生的生活实际，符合中学生的阅读趣味，适应各类考查要求。每一章由精题演练、真题回放、美文诵读三部分组成。学生通过研读多篇阅读材料和历届考试的真题，能逐步提高阅读能力；通过诵读经典美文，能逐步形成语言鉴赏能力。 由于编写时间仓促，错误与疏漏在所难免，恳请广大师生批评指正。希望本书能成为学生学习英语的良师益友。
