　　《奇幻背后的世界：托马斯·品钦小说研究》借助各种各样的奇幻叙事，解构性地展示了一幅现当代西方社会的现实性画卷，不仅涉及历史、科技发展、两性关系、伦理道德、宗教文化等对于人类社会生存与发展至关重要的现实问题，还对后现代西方知识界对于这些问题的哲学与理论的再思考表现出深刻的人文主义关怀。在展示这一现实的过程中，品钦从不断言，只是忠实地呈现他所掌握的一切；他从不参与他的文学文本的阐释，而是隐身于他的“中间地带”，静观他的文本、他的人物、他的读者无休无止地进行着他们的游戏。这既是品钦小说的经典之处，又是其永不枯竭的生命之源。
