版权页: Language The Mycenaeans spoke an early form of Greek.Archaeologists have concluded that the Mycenaean rulers adopted the Linear'A script of the Minoans and transformed it to write their own language. This written language is called Linear B.Linear B was undecipherable until the code was cracked in 1952. Art and Craftwork The Minoan culture of Crete had great influence on Mycenaean arts and crafts.Mycenaeans made great deal of pottery. There were various kinds of pottery products, including stirrup jars, pitchers, kraters, and chalices for example.Although pottery production developed quickly and large numbers of ceramic items were exported, these vessels' shapes remained almost unchanged during the whole Mycenaean period. The export products were luxurious, and they were designed with delicate decorations that incorporated myth, warrior,or animal themes. At Mycenaean sites, there was also another type of vessels made of metal. These metal objects were generally tripods, basins,or lamps. Excavations at the Mycenaean site revealed that the statues of this period were mostly made of clay.Despite exquisite handicraft, the statues were small. The majority of these statuettes are anthropomorphic figurines, both male and female. They are painted, monochrome or polychrome.Although the purpose of these statues still remains vague, some researchers suggest they might be used in prayer because they were found in the places which appeared to be worship sites.Painting of the Mycenaean age was much influenced by the Minoan. Some mural paintings found in Mycenaean palaces represented different themes, such as tauromachy, battles, parades, and mythological stories.Other paintings are made up of geometric motifs. Some pottery was also painted (see above) with identical themes.
