琼·狄第恩是于20世纪60年代步人美国文坛的。她在文学创作上成就斐然，在美国当代文学中地位显赫，是个出色的美国女作家。她在小说、非小说及剧本写作上都颇有成就，被誉为新新闻主义者、出色的文体家和才华横溢的后现代派小说家。 本书即是对狄第恩小说及非小说作品进行研究的结果。狄第恩作品中的多角度展现包括新新闻主义、女权主义和后现代主义。书中应用的指导理论有利奥塔德有关“叙事危机”及“语言游戏”的理论、埃莱娜。西苏的女权主义理论及其他后现代派写作技巧的理论等。本书把琼·狄第恩的作品放在后现代社会这一宏观背景下，分析了狄第恩对新新闻主义所作的贡献、其非小说作品中的道德关怀和政治关怀以及小说中的女权主义倾向。此外，她作品中的后现代派写作技巧和语言特色也是本书的研究内容。
